READ aims at building the textile workers community to respond to the human rights violation especially the labour rights violations that occur as the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic. In the lockdown laid for the Covid-19 pandemic, the labour market of the textile industries had drastically affected in economic fall and has highly vulnerable to the labour rights violations like forced labour, child labour, labour trafficking, low wages, no social security, and job security.

This impact of COVID has turned many textile workers to struggle from loss of jobs, fired from the job but pending salary were not paid, PF and ESI Grievances unable to claim and distribution of improper UAN numbers, etc.. So to deal with these issues and help the textile workers READ on-field working through as follows;

  • Awareness campaign on women protection systems
  • Ethical recruitment training to the mill managements in Erode & Tirupur
  • Addressing public grievance day regarding textile workers’ rights issue
  • RTI training to women leaders follow up the petitions & complaints
  • ISMW’s registration act training to the government authorities in Erode
  • ISMW’s sensitization to the PRI leaders of Erode
  • Legal clinic textile workers issue at Erode & Tirupur
